Important Distinctions:
1. "Students" - This term is used when the focus of mentoring and other support is primarily on the academic success of young people.
Such a program may be just school-based, or may be a partnership of a school or school district and another community-based agency, institution, or business which has the same, narrowly focused interest regarding young people.
2. "Youth" - This term is used when the focus of mentoring and other support is on the personal, social, academic, and even spiritual success of young people.
These programs must be a partnership of a school or school district and several other community-based agencies, institutions, and/or business, each of which are needed because each has one or more of the several strengths needed to address the full range of youth needs.
